Pune/New Delhi: SKF Industrial Ltd., a provider of premium bearing solutions and rotating equipment services, has achieved a major milestone in its localization strategy, marking a significant leap in its commitment to industrial growth and self-reliance across India and Southeast Asia.
Through years of strategic investment in manufacturing capabilities, SKF Industrial has commissioned advanced production channels for medium deep-groove ball bearings (DGBBs) above 150 mm OD in Ahmedabad, medium spherical roller bearings (SRBs) ranging from 180–320 mm OD in Nilai, Malaysia, and UC-range ball bearing units in Pune.
SKF Industrial Completes Major Localization Phase
These facilities now function as regional manufacturing hubs, reducing import dependency, improving lead times, and reinforcing SKF’s role in the regional industrial ecosystem.

All products are manufactured following SKF’s global standards, ensuring the same precision and reliability that define its European operations.
Driving Efficiency and Customer-Centric Manufacturing
Mukund Vasudevan, President – India & Southeast Asia (ISEA) and Managing Director, SKF India (Industrial), highlighted the transition from planning to execution in localization efforts.
“With new bearing manufacturing channels operational in Ahmedabad, Pune, and Nilai, we’ve moved from intent to impact. Localization is no longer a plan – it’s a reality,” he said.
The local production of key bearing types – previously imported – now enables faster go-to-market timelines and strengthens supply chain resilience for industries such as railways, renewables, infrastructure, metals, cement, food & beverage, mining, and automation.
‘Make in India’ Mission
Building on this success, SKF India (Industrial) has announced an additional investment of ₹800–950 crore by 2030, including the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility in Pune by 2028. This investment will further accelerate SKF’s role in the ‘Make in India’ initiative, focusing on increasing capacity, advancing digitalization, and promoting sustainability across its operations.
